Design

GNS3 Virtual Cisco Router – connects to physical machine – VirtualBox Host connects to physical machine as well.
The physical machine bridges the route from Virtual router to VirtualBox Host

Network settings

1. Windows VirtualBox Host – Adapter 1 = Host-only Adapter – VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter (IP address dhcp picks up 192.168.56.101)

2. Physical machine uses VirtualBox Host-Only Network addapter (Ip address 192.168.56.1)

3. GNS3 cloud (NIO Ethernet) Network adapter ‘Sun’ on local host: VirtualBox Host-Only Network. Connect your router to the cloud (configured router 192.168.56.102)

Testing ping from router to Virtual machine

R1#ping 192.168.56.101 repeat 200

Type escape sequence to abort.
Sending 200, 100-byte ICMP Echos to 192.168.56.101, timeout is 2 seconds:

Ping from Virtual machine to Router

4. To add Backtrack machine from VirtualBox – Adapter 1 = Host-only Adapter – VirtualBox Host-Only Ethernet Adapter.
Once booted ifconfig eth0 192.168.56.103 netmask 255.255.255.0
